Wild Horse Photo Contest - Please vote

I received an email from a friend asking me to vote for her photo taken for a contest for a fund raising calendar that will be sold to benefit the wild horses on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The photos are taken by amateur photographers and there will be a photo selected for the cover and one for each month of the year. I am guessing that the one with the most votes will go on the cover. This herd of Colonial Spanish Mustangs is being jeopardized by the encroaching development and the…See More

I don't find that its bad to go ahead and let him start working in loose side reins. They will help give him extra stability and as he gets used to them you an adjust them to how tight you want them to be. Personally, I hate side reins all…

Lounging

I'm working on teaching my 10 year old to lounge for our C2 test. So far he has just worked from a halter and lounge line and is still learning my commands (he is doing w-t and halt so far. The trot is still a working progress). But I'm wondering when i should start working him with side rains on. also i was wondering if anyone had some good tips on how to get him used to them. all advice will be welcomed!!

The Best Feeling

I took my young horse (above), Cazador (2002 Russian Hanoverian) to his first horse show this past Saturday. He hasn't been off the farm but a handful of times since he was 10 months old and has only been in work for about 3 weeks this year after being started for 30 days last year.... He's big, he's akward still, and his brain is only just catching up to his 17 hand body.

The best… Continue

Bittless Bridals. Allowed or Incouraged not to use?

So I was at a lesson the other day and I had a talk with the instructer and she told me that I should look into getting a bittless bridal. Well as I was thinking there was one thing that kept getting in my way, is a bittless bridal even allowed at a rally? This isn't a hackamore though, it's a bridal that looks almost exactly like a halter and is just bittless. The ranes don't come off and it's leather. I think they should be allowed for those horses who have a more sensative mouth and don't… Continue

Chuck update (part 2) :)

Hi everyone!

Chuck is still in the hospital but is making a full recovery!!! They have found a small infection where he had surgery, so he was put back on medication; but they do not think it will cause a problem. He has lost some weight, but they are trying to get it back on. He is still being hand walked many times a day.:) With lots of grain and hay! Thank you for keeping him in your prayers!!
